The 16,000-acre Southeastern Massachusetts
Bioreserve was the state’s first bioreserve,
formed in 2000 by a unique agreement
between public and private partners. These
lands are permanently protected and managed
cooperatively in a manner to preserve the
functionality of this large-scale ecosystem and
promote biodiversity, conservation, water
supply protection, and scientific, educational,
and recreational opportunities
